Parenting Support Counselling
Learn to parent more effectively
It can be exhausting to be a parent. This is particularly true if you find yourself parenting a kid who doesn’t react to the way you anticipate or respond to all the advice you’ve read about in parenting support books.
Your child’s behaviour make you feel out of control, especially after you’ve spent another sleepless night wracking your brain for solutions to the problems you face. You feel like you are walking on eggshells, trying to avoid another meltdown and get through the day without yelling, tears or slammed doors. You feel confused, frustrated and can’t help but wonder if your life will always be dominated by your child’s moods and behaviours.
What’s the best gift we can give our children?
As parents, the best gift you can give your kids is the ability to cope with difficult emotions such as sadness, shame, and anger. We believe that you play a very important role in your child’s life and in their ability to learn to regulate their emotions.
However, many parents today weren’t taught the skills they need to respond to their children in a way that builds emotion development, especially if they have a child who seems to feel emotions very strongly.
Learning to be a child’s “emotion coach” is a specific way of responding to your child when they are distressed that helps both of you navigate these intense moments more successfully.
Parenting can be tough and full of emotions:
Fear, self-blame, resentment, and frustration are very common feelings that can come up for parents.
But being caught up in these painful feelings can impact the parent-child relationship, decrease parenting effectiveness, and even keep you stuck in negative patterns of interacting with your child.
You worry that you will never feel successful or competent as a parent. You fear what might happen to your child as they grow and wonder if they will be able to be successful in school, relationships and life. Parenting support can help.
We can teach you the skills you need:
We know how to help. We are trained in proven methods to equip you, the parent, to work through your own emotions, develop skills to feel more confident and competent in their parenting, blame yourself less and improve the relationship with your child.
Whether your child struggles with anger, anxiety, OCD or another serious mental health condition, trauma or is simply a “super feeler” full of emotions, we can offer you parenting support with specific skills to respond in moments when you feel like things are spiralling out of control.
