Counselling for Women

You never quite feel like you measure up.

For as long as you can remember, you have always worked hard to meet the expectations of everyone around you.

You might call yourself a “people pleaser”, but one thing is for sure, you don’t feel ‘pleased’ with how things are going for you right now.

Your struggle to say ‘no’ has left you exhausted.

And even though feel like you are falling apart inside, you’d still hate for people to know you felt like you were coming unglued. So you run yourself into the ground trying to juggle all the balls and make sure nothing important comes crashing down.

Your emotions are overwhelming.

Some days you feel numb.  But more often, your emotions feel overwhelming. No matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to shake this stirred up feeling inside.

But you’re not one to ask for help.  You couldn’t even imagine tell anyone about your racing mind and that the anxious, unsettled feelings inside of you are unbearable.

And so you put on your brave face and carry on, as though everything is just fine.

You felt like you could keep it all together, until you became a mom.

Motherhood has been hard.

The sleep deprived newborn days.  Cranky toddlers.  Emotional middle schoolers.  Strained relationships with your teenager.  Motherhood has rocked your world in ways you never imagined possible.

It’s like all the ways you had learned to cope before having a child no longer apply. And you’re too drained to keep trying harder.

Everything feels disorganized and imperfect and there seems to be no way to get it all all back in on track. You feel like you can’t get caught up and yet you’ve never been so exhausted in your life.

On good days, you can fake it.  You paste on a smile so that on the outside it looks like you have it all together.  But truth is, on the inside you feel like you are falling apart.

You never expected it would be so difficult to get pregnant.

The irony is inescapable.  You used to stress out whenever your period was late, hoping you wouldn’t get pregnant, and felt a palpable sense of relief each time it arrived.  Now, ‘Aunt Flo’ sends you to bed in tears, devastated that after so many months of trying, you are still not pregnant.

You’ve subjected yourself to all the poking and prodding, testing and measuring you can take.  You’re sick of feeling like a failed science experiment.  You’re exhausted from the the relentless anxiety that haunts you each month as you breathlessly wait to see if you will finally dip a positive test.

Your mind is constantly searching for answers; maybe a bit more of this or a little less of that will be the key.  Relationships with your friends have even become strained as you try to hold back feelings of jealousy each time the announce a pregnancy or ask if you’d like to hold their child.  It seems so unfair that your body won’t cooperate with what your heart most longs for. We provide counselling for women just like you.
